9/11 Tributes Scheduled for O.C. Fire Stations, Marine Monument

A bagpiper will play Sunday to commemorate the victims of the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks. OCFA personnel will conduct flag ceremonies in the morning.

On Sunday at 1 p.m., Park Semper Fi will host a short musical presentation in remembrance of 9/11 by Duncan Wilson, a bagpiper from San Clemente.

The public is invited.

The Marine Monument has become a de facto place to mourn and remember for many local families who have lost service members in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At 8:46 a.m. on Sunday, Orange County Fire Authority personnel will conduct services at the flagpoles of the OCFA stations in San Clemente and throughout the county to salute the 343 fallen members of the New York Fire Department, 37 fallen members of the Police Department and 37 fallen members of the Port Authority Police.

The public is also invited to these ceremonies.

The City Council on Tuesday night also commemorated the anniversary of the grisly attacks by directing its staff to donate $911 to an appropriate local charity.
