Council to Vote on Paseos, Sports Park Name
The San Clemente City Council will kick off 2012 with a variety of infrastructure and contract business.
The San Clemente City Council on Tuesday will decide on the naoft for the new La Pata/Vista Hermosa Sports Park and whether to proceed with a comprehensive improvement plan for the paseos off Avenida Del Mar.
The Beaches Parks and Recreation Commission in December submitted a couple of potential names for the new sports park: The Vista Hermosa Sports Park or the San Clemente Sports Center. Council members could adopt one of those or choose their own.
The city staff also suggests they assemble a comprehensive plan for screening trash bins, under-grounding electrical lines and adding other decorative features and signage to the paseos that lead pedestrians onto Del Mar.
According to the staff report, the city developed a recommendation for a comprehensive paseo plan after working to design and build a single trash enclosure, which would require a budget of $40,000 from the city or surrounding business owners -- higher than anticipated because the Granada parking lot in which it would be built would have to be rearranged to accommodate the lost space. Landscaping would also be required.
Staffers say council should move forward on the Granada enclosure and hold off on other efforts until the other improvements are complete.
The city has been in consultation with SDG&E about undergrounding the lines, according to the report.
The city will also be conducting business on a number of other items, including developing rules for people to rent park amenities, leasing a former fire station to Family Assistance Ministries, rehiring the city’s lobbying firm and applying for funds for a road project, among others.
The council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers, 100 Ave. Presidio.

other parts of town need attention now,,,
removing poles and wires from alleys for business owners that will not add to public safety,, free of charge while leaving poles in the middle of residential sidewalks or just missing residual sidewalks all together is miss direction of public funds and a shameful behavior
our council seems to think that public funds are for everyone but the public

Agreed.
Whole neighborhoods without sidewalks and they waste these funds on decor.
Putting lipstick on a pig.
