Why go: The children’s book author will read from her new series, Kindergators.

‘THE EVERYTHING GUIDE TO STUDY SKILLS’ DISCUSSION
Where/When: Laguna Beach Books, 1200 S. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach; 6 p.m. Thursday
Why go: Open to students and parents, educational consultant Cindy Muchnick discusses success in school through good study skills.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE PARTY
Where/When: Ole Hanson Beach Club, 105 W. Avenida Pico, San Clemente; 7 to 9 p.m. Friday
Why go: For San Clemente seventh and eighth graders only, celebrate the beginning of the school year with your friends.

COASTAL CLEANUP DAY: SAN CLEMENTESTATE ANDCITYBEACHES
Where/When: 615 Avenida Victoria and 225 Avenida Califia, San Clemente, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday
Why go: Join in the county- and statewide effort to keep beaches and waterways clear of trash.

SAN CLEMENTE CELEBRATION OF SURF MUSIC AND ART FESTIVAL
Where/When: Richard T. Steed Memorial Park, 241 Avenida la Pata, San Clemente; 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Enjoy live music and an expo of surf art that includes more than 100 booths.
Pricing: $15 for adults, $5 for children
