Blood, Football and Blues -- Not at the Same Event

Keeping busy in San Clemente

1. There’s always another drive around the corner: The American Red Cross holds blood drives four times a month in San Clemente’s Community Center. Go here to sign up. And yes, that’s my arm in the photo!

2.Time is of the essence when it comes to football: The City of San Clemente Recreation Division is accepting registrations for the Friday Night Youth Flag Football League and cheerleading program. The programs begin the week of Sept. 16 and the games are on Friday nights from Oct. 4 to Nov. 22.

Registration is now open and the deadline to register for both programs is Friday. Boys and girls between the ages of 6-14 years old are invited to participate and get in the action. All games and cheerleading will be held on Friday nights under the lights between the hours of 4-9 p.m. at the Vista Hermosa Sports Park.

3. To get over the hump-day blues: How about some blues? Brian Young & The Blues Station play 7-10 tonight at The Cellar. 156 Avenida Del Mar, San Clemente.

4. Crazy day alert: Today is Another Look Unlimited Day. Yeah, we didn’t know what that meant until we looked it up. What they’re asking (whoever THEY are!) is that as you sort things you want to get rid of, consider what you could recycle or give away. With that in mind, we found this nifty item on Craigslist freebies listings. Got landscape fabric?

5. Patch read of the day:  Fashion Boutique 'Pops Up' in San Juan Capistrano
