5 Reasons Why San Clemente Is A Great Place To Live

5 Reasons why San Clemente is a great place to live: Community, Beach, Climate, Entrepreneurial spirit, and location.

My name is Adrienne Markes and I live and work in San Clemente as a real estate broker.  Periodically I will be writing blog posts for the San Clemente Patch on the topic of real estate here in our town.

For this first piece, I thought I would share with you why I think San Clemente is a great place to live. Some of the reasons include:

  • Community

The overall feel of the community here is great. I feel safe no matter what part of town I’m in or what time of day it is. The people who live here have strong opinions about keeping San Clemente protected (from toll roads, big developers, etc.) and are willing to do something about it, not just sit back and complain. San Clemente residents care about each other. Examples of this are the neighbors of those who lost everything in the El Portal fire helping raise funds for the victims (http://sanclementetimes.com/view/full_story/11140294/article-Neighbors-Rally-to-Help-Fire-Victims). I personally know of local business owners who hold an annual college fundraiser for the surviving child of one of their patrons.  This type of tight knit community is a joy to be a part of.

  • Beach

My perfect day starts with a run on the beach trail, a good stretch on the sand afterward, lunch at Fisherman’s, tanning while reading a book, watching the sunset and roasting marshmallows over the bonfire. Who doesn’t love the beach? Well, I do know someone who doesn’t like to be outdoors at all. But most of us enjoy the fresh air and sunny skies here in San Clemente. How lucky are we to live in the best beach town in California?

  • Climate

I must admit, when I first moved here it was a bit cold for my liking. Growing up in LA I was used to much warmer temperatures.  August is my favorite month because it’s the warmest with temps in the 80s but other than that we have an average temp of 70 degrees. Did I mention the sunny skies? The climate is so mild that many homes in San Clemente don’t even have air conditioning.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit

I love the fact that you can drive around town and choose from a multitude of small businesses.  Whether its boutique shopping, dining, or appliance repair you need, you have an opportunity to support the community and small business owners. Although there are some big corporations with locations here in San Clemente, they are few and far between.  Don’t hate me for being excited about the new Target coming to town in October.

  • Beautiful location

Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of LA and San Diego but close enough when you need to go there. Far enough off the beating path that we don’t get the same crowds as other OC beach locations. Don’t get me wrong, tourism is great and needed to keep our businesses in business but it’s nice to keep San Clemente just the way it is.

Growing up we all heard the expression “Location, location, location”. This could not be more true (in my humble opinion). One of the most important things to consider when deciding to purchase or rent real estate is the area and location you will be living. With 8 years of real estate experience, this remains my first and most import piece of advice when working with my buyer clients. You can change the house, but you can’t change its location. As you consider your current or future real estate choices, be sure to find your “San Clemente” before landing on your decision of where to live. You’ll be happy you did.
