Puppies, Booze and Mexican Food: Happy Hour Isn't Just for Humans
Avila's El Ranchito on Avenida Del Mar hosted its third monthy Yappy Hour; this month, Halloween themed with a costume contest.
Who ever said happy hour was only for humans?
hosted their October Holloween-themed “Yappy Hour” this Monday at their patio on Avenida Del Mar and Ola Vista, complete with dog-friendly cocktails and a costume contest.
The four-legged guests helped themselves to a Pup-Tini (a chicken broth based cocktail topped with a dog-friendly treat) compliments of dog care franchise , and wheat-free doggy cupcakes compliments of Just Food for Dogs. And yes, humans were also allowed to have their own fun, enjoying the restaurant’s happy hour food and drink specials.

Elyse Avila, dog owner, manager, and a member of the El Ranchito chain's founding family, teamed up with Camp Bow Wow owner Kimberly Simons last August to create this pup-friendly event.
“It’s a great way for dog owners to socialize with their dogs,” Avila said.

Held on the third Monday of every month from 3 to 6 p.m., San Clemente pet owners are encouraged to “Dine with their Canines” while the restaurant offers a separate dog-friendly menu. The menu, created by the restaurant’s own chefs, features chicken and steak bowls created with dog- (and human-) friendly ingredients.
