Children Create Hand-Drawn Tiles for the Henderson House

Kids and parents come together to improve their community.

The Henderson House was at it again on Saturday.

This week, the community gathered together to paint tiles that will be placed along the wall outside the garden. Depicting a range of scenes, from a sunny day to the garden itself, the tiles were a great way for the kids to show their imaginations.

"It's beautiful," Sofia Berber said. "It's something that motivates the children and families around this area and makes them feel like they are part of a community. Good things still can be done."

The project also gave the children exposure to the arts, something that has been cut back because of budget restraints in the last few years.

"Because of the school budget, many kids aren't exposed to a creative outlet," Denise Obrero said. "Painting these tiles has a positive effect on them.

"A few years down the line they can come back here and say 'I was part of this.' That's so important for a community no matter where you live."
