Exchange Club Honors Deputy, Firefighter of the Year

Two public safety officers received the awards at a luncheon at Irons in the Fire at San Clemente Municipal Golf Course Thursday.

The Exchange Club of San Clemente Thursday awarded trophies to the local sheriff's deputy and firefighter of the year at a luncheon at Irons in the Fire.

The awards were based on a vote by the colleagues of each respective nominee.

The award-winning San Clemente Deputy Sheriff is Dan Corwin, a patrol deputy who has been serving in San Clemente for four of the 17 years he's been with the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

"I feel great," he said. "I love San Clemente and I love working here."

The Orange County Fire Authority's Tommy Arzate, an emergency transport technician, was the winner of the firefighter of the year award. He's served in San Clemente for four of his 12 years with the authority.

"I was surprised and honored," he said. "I'm just doing my job, just doing what everyone else is doing."
