FAM Supporters Help Win $20K Grant to Fight Hunger

The grant from Walmart will go to help feed hungry kids locally.

San Clemente's Family Assistance Ministries won a $20,000 grant from Walmart's national Fighting Hunger Together Campaign.

With the support of online voters who cast 443,000 votes in support of FAM's plan to use the cash to feed hungry kids, the nonprofit food bank joined dozens of other award recipients nationwide.

Walmart handed out $3 million in grants this year to community organizations to fight hunger. Customers were invited to cast votes at www.walmart.com/hunger for the eligible organization of their choosing and as a result, 100 food banks and partner feeding agencies were selected as grant winners, according to a Walmart release.

The funding will be distributed by Feeding America, the nation's leading hunger relief organization, according to the release.

Joining Walmart in the fight against hunger this spring were 10 large U.S. food companies, including Campbell’s SoupConAgra FoodsDr. Pepper Snapple GroupGeneral MillsKraft Foods GroupKellogg CompanyMondelez InternationalNestlé USAPepsiCo and Unilever.
