Rotary, SCHS Kids Bring in Record Food Donations

The San Clemente Sunrise Rotary, along with their San Clemente High School counterpart club, have collected more than 150 boxes of food from locals over two weekends.

San Clemente residents have stepped up this year to provide 155 local families with Thanksgiving dinner.

"We will combine all donations into 155 boxes of Thanksgiving dinners for Marine Corp families, Family Assistance Ministries and Laura's House," said Sandy Beeler of the San Clemente Sunrise Rotary in an email. "This total for just Thanksgiving far exceeds our annual total from prior years!"

The club worked together with their counterpart Interact Club at the San Clemente High School to collect food at local grocery stores over the last two weekends.

Volunteers Monday night sorted the truckloads of food at the Holiday Inn on Avenida de la Estrella. Tuesday, at 7:15 a.m., both clubs will match up 155 turkeys with the stuffing, potatoes, canned pumpkin and other supplies they collected, Beeler said.

Volunteers from Marine Corps, Family Assistance Ministries and Laura's House then arrive in the trucks to haul off the food.
