VIDEO: TV Star Mackenzie Phillips Talks About Recovery in San Clemente

The former childhood actress has experienced a lifetime of addiction and victory.

Mackenzie Phillips, best known for the sit-com One Day at a Time or Celebrity Rehab, depending on your age, was in San Clemente Wednesday to talk to therapists and others who help addicts recover.

The 54-year-old was a childhood star, getting her big break when she won a part in the classic film, American Graffiti

But she's also well known for her struggles with alcohol and drugs. She was fired twice from the TV show, achieved a long sobriety and was arrested in 2008 by Los Angeles Airport Police for possession for cocaine and heroin.

A memoir of her addictions and troubled relationship with her father, John Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas followed and then the stint on Celebrity Rehbab.

Phillips now works with the Pasadena Recovery Center and regular books speaking gigs, both to addicts and those who help them.

She was in San Clemente Wednesday at an open house for Sovereign Health Group, celebrating five years in Talega.
