If You've Got AT&T U-verse, You've Got Lakers Access

Many who don't have Time-Warner Cable are still without Kobe & Co.

The new pay TV channel with exclusive rights to most L.A. Lakers games has picked up its first big affiliation agreement.

Southern Californians who subscribe to the AT&T U-verse TV service will be able to see Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes effective Tuesday, TWC and ATT officials said Saturday.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet will be available for U-verse TV customers in the Los Angeles, San Diego, Bakersfield and Fresno markets to subscribers with the U100 package and above.

The twin channels carry the Lakers non-network games, as well as WNBA Sparks and L.A. Galaxy soccer games.

The distribution deal marks the first carriage for the TWC channels on systems other than Time Warner Cable's own systems. Other major distribution systems have balked at the $3.95 per month wholesale charge levied by TWC, and the demand that the extra channels be made available on all basic cable tiers.

I've been waiting for U-verse for YEARS.. Speaking to the technicicans who install it, I was amazed to discover a simple piece of equipment (called a 'V-RAD') must be installed in the vault down the street from my home (there is plenty of room / power to support it, too). AT&T can't (or won't), due to some agreements with local area cities after Cox paid some serious ca$h to quell competition. I wish I had the details, but when several folks from competing companies say the same thing.... Rotten eggs will eventually make enough stink to be discovered.

I wish you had the details, too. Sounds like jamokeeism to me, Sir.

Looks like Cox picked up the Lakers. No details yet if it is free or not. http://www.ocregister.com/sports/network-376715-picks-shouldn.html

I sure hope I'm not paying $4/month for this... cable bills are expensive enough, mostly due to this kind of shenanigans by content owners.
