SONIC OC: Twice Fooled Rocks the Blue Danube

The San Clemente band gets the Fourth of July weekend off to a rockin' start.

Local band Twice Fooled rocked San Clemente’s Blue Danube on Friday with bluesy, old-school covers. The show was part of a collaboration between the Blue Danube and Patch.com's Sonic OC to feature local music every Friday night.

“We were definitely born in the wrong generation,” said Matt Sears, lead vocalist and keyboardist of the four-person band. “We have a lot of Cream, Zeppelin and Grand Funk Railroad influences.”

Twice Fooled began the evening with a few Led Zeppelin and Cream covers and concluded the night with original tracks from its own, self-titled album.

The crowd was light and the atmosphere mellow, as the smooth, bluesy guitar riffs and solid drum solos resounded though the historic Old City Plaza. The crowd included young and old, on and off the dance floor.

“They have a fun rocky feel and are not too heavy or hard-core,” Danielle Melilli of Dana Point said of the band. “I like their sound.”

“This was my first time at the Blue Danube,” said Kalina Justice-Werve of San Clemente. “This band really rocks like a real rock band.”

Twice Fooled will be featured at the Next Door club Saturday, July 2, and the Double Tree Hotel in Dana Point on Sunday, July 3.
