UPDATED: San Clemente Burglary Suspect Escapes Deputies, Dogs, Helicopter

One woman is in custody, the other suspect remains on the run Thursday after eluding deputies.

Reported By Jackie Connor and Adam Townsend (Updated 10:15 a.m. Thursday)

Residents on San Clemente’s Via Del Campo returned home from work Wednesday evening to find their street blocked off as a police helicopter circled above, and deputies patrolled with guns drawn.

According to dispatch reports, a man hoisted himself onto the balcony of a home on the 3900 block of Via Del Campo shortly after 5 p.m. to gain access to an open door there -- he arrived in a car parked in the street in which a woman sat.

Lt. Steve Gil of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said Thursday that deputies arrested the woman in the car -- a black Chevy with no plates -- but lost the man suspected of the burglary. Despite a helicopter, foot patrols and dogs, the suspect escaped, Gil said.

According to jail records, the woman arrested was Casandra Deneise Green, 23. She's being held on $50,000 bond.

Resident Jim Miklich was on Calle Real -- which intersects Campo -- when he said he saw one of the suspects fleeing.

“I came out of the front door, and that’s when I saw the guy running down the street,” he said. “I tried to wave to the police officers that were driving down the street. As soon as the cop car passed, I saw the guy drop the to the floor, and then he took off. I just saw one guy.”

Initial facts on the incident reported by Patch were inaccurate because of faulty information received by an official. The watch commander on duty Wednesday afternoon confused the incident on Campo with a minor shoplifting arrest and pursuit on the other side of town that was happening at the same time.
