Marines practicing how to remove mines may cause explosions and loud booms audible up to 50 miles away, the Marine Corps advised day.
The Marines will be setting off line charges of 1,750 pounds of C-4 explosives, the Marines announced on their Internet page.
Atmospheric conditions might funnel the sound waves up to 50 miles, the Marines said. Newport Beach is about 45 miles from the center of the Marine base.
Training was planned for noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
