Wag-A-Thon Draws Hundreds to Dana Point Harbor

Thousands pet owners and vendors flocked Saturday to Dana Point Harbor to support and raise money for the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter.

The Dana Point-San Clemente Animal Shelter Saturday hosted its 19th annual Wag-A-Thon run to raise money for the shelter’s upkeep and various programs.

San Clemente locals participated in a 3K walk with their dogs to demonstrate their support.

The event, held at the Dana Point Harbor, welcomed residents and general pet lovers alike and offered music, herding dog demonstrations, pet contests and shops. Face painting was also available for the children’s enjoyment.

The Wag-A-Thon raises money each year for the welfare of the shelter’s animals, from training and kennel care to spay and neuter programs to community outreach.

Some locals came after hearing about the recent Cat Room opening at the shelter.

“I went to the opening of the Cat Room and thought that the new wing looked great but that the dogs were still in tiny cages outdoors.  I’m hoping that some of the money from this will go towards building a better place for the dogs,” said Mike Noland.

Organizers of the event estimated five thousand in attendance between vendors, volunteers, and invested pet owners.
