Casino Cafe Aims for Early '13 Opening

Workers are preparing the space in the historic Casino San Clemente to house a cafe connected with Garden Grove's Jay's Catering.

Workers at the historic Casino San Clemente are preparing the way for a restaurant that will be operated by Jay's Catering of Garden Grove.

Casino Owner Linda Sadeghi said workers had installed new windows and french doors. As a landlord, she said she still has to finish the kitchen floor, install the air conditioning and grease trap.

That work is slated to be finished within the next 30 days, and then Jay's will do the interior and aesthetic work, Sadeghi said.

The city of San Clemente still has to approve some permits for the eatery, but the owners are aiming to open shortly after the New Year, Sadeghi said.

The restaurant owners won't release the name yet, but the cafe's Chef Wende Gavin spoke to Patch in spring of this year.

"It's gonna be sexy," she said. "You're gonna want to come have breakfast with me."

Gavin said the restaurant serve breakfast and lunch and feature a market with carryout meals and ingredients.
