Elks Aim to Downsize, Sell Clubhouse

The Elks' San Clemente lodge is on the market for $3.5 Million.

The San Clemente Elks are selling their Camino Real clubhouse in response to shrinking membership.

Ramona Maney, the Century 21 broker in San Clemente, said the membership for the club used to be more than 900, but is now fewer than 300.

"They own the lodge free and clear," said Maney, herself an Elk. "We have shown the property to approximately 15 people -- everyone from churches to nightclubs."

The property is zoned for mixed-use, Maney said, making it very versatile. The land comprises five lots for a total of 29,000 square feet. The building is 10,000 square feet.

A big factor in the choice to sell the lodge is the loss of revenue from the trap and skeet shooting range the Elks ran right outside of town that closed last year.
