Nomads Bar and Restaurant to Open in October

With 32 beers on tap and food from surf destinations around the world, the new owners are targeting San Clemente locals.

In a spot in the alley parallel to El Camino Real, some new restaurant owners hope to win more customers than other pubs that have failed in that spot over the past several years.

Nomads Canteen, which just installed a new oceanview patio in the spot aims to open in mid October. Though pub/eateries in this building the corner of Avenida Serra and the alley have struggled in past, co-owner Renee Gourley said she hopes through a comination of the patio dining, targeting locals, the food and 32 beers on tap will bring her success.

She called the alleyway, close to the heavily traveled ECR and the iconic downtown shopping destination Avenida Del Mar, a "synergistic area."

Gourley said the alley is heavily traveled by pedestrians and motorists seeking a shortcut, and locals often want to avoid main-drag venues that attract a lot of tourists.

The food will be inspired by different surf destinations around the world; like Hawaii, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Mexico, Gourley said.
