Sewage Spill Shuts Down the Shore on Del Mar

The restaurant was able to reopen later the same day.

The Shore restaurant in downtown San Clemente was shut down last week for a day because of a sewage spill, according to health officials.

Orange County Environmental Health inspectors came by for a visit to the restaurant, at 201 Avenida Del Mar, Wednesday and discovered the toilets not working and sewage backing up into floor sinks, according to an online report.

“Staff indicate the sewage back-up began 1.5 hours ago. Customers were observed at a table eating. Whenever a sewage back-up occurs, you must immediately close your facility,” the report says.

A plumber was called, and health officials allowed the restaurant to reopen later the same day.

Inspectors also cited The Shore for chilling a bottle of wine in the customers’ ice bin. A number of smaller violations were noted, including improper food storage, lack of a food thermometer and lack of a scoop with handle for ice in the bar.
