Thousands Expected at Sea Fest, Chowder Cook-Off Sunday

The annual event at the San Clemente Pier will determine whose chowder reigns supreme for another year.

The San Clemente Sea Fest this Sunday is expected to draw thousands who will sample chowder, stroll and check out the surf contest.

The yearly chowder cook-off, open to both individuals and restaurants, is open for public tasting starting at 9:30 a.m. Tickets for tasting are $6 and get the buyer five tastes.

Prizes will be awarded through fourth place in three categories: Best Chowder, Best Decorated and People's Choice. Each category has and individual and restaurant division.

Also at the Sea Fest will be the rock power trio the Gemtones, and the U.S. Coast Guard will perform a search-and-rescue demonstration exercise.

is hosting a surf competition as well, a follow up to Saturday's stand-up paddleboard competition.

There will be parking at the at 700 Ave. Pico with a free shuttle to the Pier from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
