Honoring the Fallen at Park Semper Fi

A beautiful day greets the couple hundred who show up for music and tributes.

Military members, past and present, were joined by city officials and a full brass band at Park Semper Fi on Monday afternoon to pay homage to fallen American service personnel.

The Memorial Day ceremony featured World War II-era music--as well as World War II-era veterans.

Lt. Col. Carlton Hasle, commanding officer of the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367, which has been adopted by the city of San Clemente, spoke words of remembrance.

Although it's important to solemnly remember the fallen, he said, it's also important to have fun during the long weekend.

After all, the men and women killed in action gave their lives not only for our safety but so we could enjoy celebrations, Hasle said.
