Sewage Spill Prompts Closure of Portion of Mariposa Beach

The public will be advised of the reopening of the area once OCEHD has determined that the affected waters are in compliance with State standards.

The City of San Clemente made the following announcement on June 26, 2013:

Due to a small sewage spill reported at a residence Tuesday afternoon on La Paloma Street in San Clemente, a portion of the beach at 300’ upcoast and downcoast of Mariposa Beach was closed pending an evaluation of the extent of the spill by the Orange County Environmental Health Division (OCEHD). 

Lifeguards posted the beach area with yellow and red closure notices, which include a red flag signifying “hazardous conditions” in the affected area.

Additionally, the information has been shared via a recorded surf report and online surf report on the City’s website at www.san-clemente.org until the area is cleared by OCEHD. The public will be advised of the reopening of the area once OCEHD has determined that the affected waters are in compliance with State standards.
