UPDATED: South OC Power Outages Hit More Than 120,000

More than 120,000 utility customers lost power late Thursday and early Friday because of a blackout affecting San Clemente and a dozen other communities, San Diego Gas & Electric reported.
The outage began at 11:42 p.m. Thursday, according to a map on SDG&E's website. A total of 122,904 homes and businesses were affected, according to SDG&E.
The utility blamed "a combination of factors (that) caused a problem in the electric system." Most of the affected customers had their power restored by around 2:30 a.m., according to SDG&E's outage map.
The blackout area also included Dana Point, Capistrano Beach, Laguna Niguel, northwest Camp Pendleton, San Juan Capistrano, Ladera Ranch, Coto de Caza, Talega, Ortega, Laguna Hills, south Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo, according to the utility.
A resident of the Promenade Apartments in Mission Viejo told Patch, "Everyone is outside walking around. Hopefully my car doesn't get broken into."
