OPINION: Nuke Plant Safety Meeting May Not Be as Balanced as Promised

Nuclear Power Concerns at City Council Meeting on Tuesday Evening, 9/6 at City Hall, 100 Avenida Presidio. Begins at 6:00PM, Item 11B around 7:30. Also on Channel 30.

Once again we are calling on concerned citizens to help us over another hurdle at the City Council meeting Tuesday night.

San Clemente Green for two years to have a public information meeting regarding San Onofre Safety issues (SOS) when whistleblowers first began to approach us.

Since Fukushima, we have asked for an even more focused meeting to be held about SONGS. Last City Council meeting the final details for that meeting were finally established. It was to take place on September 27th at our Community Center with representatives from the Nuclear Power Industry AND equal representation from unaffiliated experts in the field.

Now, a new proposal by our city manager will replace that meeting with two meetings, separating the inside experts from those not tied to the industry. We feel that this is a disservice to the community, denying us a rare opportunity to hear a balanced presentation on this most important topic.

Please join us at City Council by 7:30pm or sooner to show support for our alternative plan which offers a reasonable solution to the issues cited by our City Manager. It is Agenda Item 11B following Oral Communications Part 2. As usual, please wear red to be identified as part this initiative.
