Blood Drive Honors Fallen Teacher, Stricken Student

The effort, at San Clemente High School Friday, is also open to the community.

San Clemente High School’s annual blood drive in honor of a teacher who died from non-smoking lung cancer five years ago is scheduled for Friday.

The blood drive is sponsored by the school’s Be A Hero Become A Donor club.

But this year, there’s an added twist.

“We are also doing this event in honor of SCHS sophomore Saylor Voris, who was diagnosed with leukemia the first week of school and will undergo a bone marrow transplant to save her life,” said Gina Cousineau, who founded the nonprofit.

The blood drive is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the Triton Center. The community is invited as well. No appointment is necessary and adults get to take cuts in front of the students, Cousineau said.

“The SCHS Be A Hero Become A Donor club hopes to bring in more than 100 units of blood between the student population and our community,” Cousineau said.
