Dozens of San Clemente dogs got a once-in-their-lifetime chance to swim in the Ole Hanson Beach Club Pool Saturday.

Retrievers ruled the day, Labradors and Goldens, but an English Springer Spaniel and one Weimaraner gave them a run for their money. Meanwhile, a miniature Poodle-Terrier mix and two Basset Hounds wanted to no part of the wet stuff.

The Ole Hanson Beach Club Pool will soon  be drained so that the city can remodel the beach club, presenting dogs a chance to splash and play like, well, kids in a public pool.

I wish they would have had it opened ALL day instead of just 1-3 PM.....I called in the morning to see if I could take my two American Bulldogs at 11 AM but they said no. I had to work at 1 PM so that timing was crappy for me. I am so bummed. They would have LOVED to swim in the pool. Why didn't they do it more than one time? And for longer hours than just three? I say; do it again during the week for us who have to work on the weekends!!!!! AND....we need a place on the beach where we can take our dogs swimming....that would be awesome!
