Ways to Help Orange County's Hungry this Thanksgiving

Find out where to volunteer to help those less fortunate this Thanksgiving in Orange County.

Are you looking for a way to show your thankfulness this holiday?

Patch has put together a list of local ways to help those less fortunate enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. Check out these volunteer opportunities for ways to share the holiday spirit this week:

Laguna Beach

The Neighborhood Congregational Church and the Friendship Shelter is accepting volunteers and donations for Thursday’s Thanksgiving community meal in Laguna Beach. If you are interested in donating a cooked turkey, ham, or any economy-size side dishes and fixings, organizers suggest arriving at 11 a.m. at the church located at 340 St. Ann's Drive in Laguna Beach. If you plan to donate food, please call 949-494-6928.

San Clemente

Help Family Assistance Ministries as they feed the hungry and homeless 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Center. If you would like to donate food for their Thanksgiving Community Dinner and/or adopt-a-family or attend the event please contact FAM at (949) 492-8477.

Feeding the homeless Part II: Brick Pizzeria will be closed 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday to feed the homeless on Thanksgiving.  Donations and volunteers needed. Call (949) 429-1199 for more info.

Lake Forest

South County Outreach needs volunteers Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m.-4 p.m. to help distribute meals and toys through December. Their food pantry office is in Lake Forest at 26776 Vista Terrace. Call Volunteer Coordinator Olivia Sam for more details on how to help: (949) 380-8144 ext. 211 or olivia@sco-oc.org.

Newport Beach

The Oasis Senior Center in Corona del Mar is accepting canned and non-perishable foods. Collection boxes are located in the Oasis administration office at 801 Narcissus Ave. in Corona del Mar. 

Greater Orange County

Thousands of meals will be prepared for the hungry at the Honda Center. Last year more than 1,500 volunteers pitched in. Although volunteer sign-ups have closed, they will be accomodating volunteers through a walk-up line the day of the feast. Learn more about volunteering here.
