Financial Peace in College: Make Lemonade from Lemons

If students can start a business in high school while in the cushioned security of their parents protection and guidance, carry it over to college, and graduate debt free, they are a HERO.

Every summer when the college tuition bill is received, that sinking feeling overtakes many parents.

That is why we offer the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace class here at our office.  The class is free, and the class materials (including online access to videos and CD's) are optional.  Over the summer, we eat (everyone who knows us KNOWS that we meet to eat), cry, laugh, and become VICTORIOUS over our circumstances by changing our cash positions.

Hard work? HECK YES!

Our next info session is Thursday 5/17 at 6:30 pm. The classes start May 31 and go thru the summer.  Tell your friends, and come on down and check it out!  You can sign up online at www.DaveRamsey.com.

The reason I bring that up is that a HUGE component of changing our cash position is to make lemons from lemonade.  And what a great thing to teach your high school and college students.

If they can start a business in high school, carry it over to college, and graduate literally debt free, they are a HERO. And hundreds of students are doing that.  The academic stars tutor for cash, those who love clothing may join an online clothing distributorship, Coffee is a big seller in college; those who like to work with their hands can make jewelry, write computer software, or work at the local restaurant.

When a South Orange County student graduates from college, many have never had a real income, balanced a checkbook, or had to have a budget. Is it any wonder they are moving back home to the tune of 6 million (2011 figures)?  We want to see them start a business while in the cushioned security of their parents protection and guidance.  THEN they will be able to kick butt in "dorm business building."

So even though the Dave Ramsey class is not appropriate for high school  age students, if parents can get a more realistic perspective on this whole college thing, the pressure will be a LOT less intense.

And decisions can be made based on reality instead of desperation can be made.
