By the time you read this, it might seem a little late to get a donut.
It's never too late to get a donut.
Today is National Donut Day, and we at San Clemente Patch want to know your favorite donut.
Glazed, maple, or jelly-filled, tell us in the comments below.
The holiday (originally just Donut Day) started out as a fundraiser for Chicago's Salvation Army in the early 1900s.
In fact, the Salvation Army still holds the event.
Aaaand, Entenmann's bakery -- which is co-sponsoring the Chicago event -- is holding a contest giving the winner free donuts for a year.
To enter, visit Entenmann's Facebook contest page.
Krispy Kreme in Mission Viejo (the closest Krispy Kreme to San Clemente) is giving out one free glazed doughnut in honor of the holiday and in honor of the business's 75th anniversary.
The Krispy Kreme is at 25802 El Paseo Avenue. For more information, call (949) 348-8900
You can learn more about the holiday at donutdayusa.com
Here’s a doughnut fun fact: the actual name for a donut's shape (the three-dimensional ring with a hole) is called a torus.
Oh, and for the record? My favorite doughtnut is pink.
I know it's not a flavor. But it's my favorite.
