Look Good Feel Better Needs Volunteers- Margot Ferron

The American Cancer Society offers many free services to the community, but people aren’t aware of them.  One of the favorites is Look Good Feel Better.

Look Good Feel Better is a program that teaches all women with cancer beauty techniques to help manage their appearance related to side effects of undergoing chemotherapy, radiation or other forms of treatment.  It is designed to give them confidence and boost their spirits.

More than 800,000 women have participated in the program in the United States and there are 14,500 workshops nationwide in more than 3,000 locations. The group programs are led by volunteer, trained professionals using products donated by the cosmetic industry.  Each two-hour, hands-on session includes makeup, nail care and advice on how to use wigs, hairpieces and other accessories.

Patients are given complimentary cosmetic kits in shades that match their skin tones.  Because of confidentiality and space restrictions only patients may attend.  There are only five to 10 participants in each workshop.  It is free and requires pre-registration.

In Mission Viejo, the next Look Good Feel Better is held at Mission Hospital Regional      Medical Center, 26732 Crown Valley Pkwy in the Mission Women’s Wellness Center.  The program needs licensed cosmetologists to volunteer their skills.

Relay for Life of Mission Viejo has been awarded a five star relay.    The Relay committee sets goals with the American Cancer Society.  One goal this year is to reach out to our community and encourage our licensed cosmetologists to volunteer for Look Good Feel Better.

The American Cancer Society not only funds research, advocacy, education and services, it genuinely provides each of us with an avenue to fight back and remember our loved ones.  It is a unique way for us to create a community enriched by a tapestry of people who want to know their neighbors and share their love by helping one another.  You are not alone in your fight against cancer. Your community is here to support you.

If you want to volunteer please contact Margot Ferron, gomargotgo@aol.com, 949/309-1235 or email: gomargotgo@aol.com.  Other volunteers- health care professionals and individuals also give their time to the program.
