Mariners celebrate another awesome season!

Mariner 936 Sea scouts of Dana Point celebrated another awesome season last Wednesday evening with a Bridge of Honor event held at the Ocean Institute. They have good reason to be proud having scored many victories at the recent Ancient Mariner Regatta in San Francisco, bringing home 2 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 5 bronze for their efforts in the seamanship based competition.

Each year at Bridge of Honor a graduating Mariner is awarded a generous college scholarship by the Cvengros family, in loving memory of their son Christopher William Cvengros. Chris was a very active, dedicated member of the Mariner Sea Scouts. His tragic death in 1996 shocked and saddened the close knit community of young people that shared with him a love of the sea and all things nautical. The scholarship is awarded to the Mariner deemed to embody a great work ethic, both at school and sea scouts, and who demonstrates the love of others through community service and having a keen concern for safety at sea. This year’s recipient is Quartermaster and Boatswain Joshua Johnson of San Clemente.  Josh has been actively involved in scouting programs for 12 years and is an American Red Cross Instructor in Lifeguarding and First Aid.    He is graduating from San Clemente High School next month and has been accepted at the California Maritime Academy where he will major in Marine transportation.

Mariners 936 sea scouts begins a new season in September. More information is available at Mariners936.com or by emailing info@mariners936.com.
