3 Suspected Illegal Immigrants Face Charges, 8 Deported

Border Patrol agents detained 11 men and women hiding in the hills at San Onofre.

One Mexican man is in federal custody, accused of organizing a human-smuggling boat trip, while two others were arrested on suspicion of re-entry after deportation, which is a felony--they were apprehended after landing at San Onofre this week.

U.S. Border Patrol agents detained 11 illegal immigrants hiding in the hills around San Onofre State Beach Tuesday morning. The 10 Mexican nationals and one Colombian were intercepted by the Maritime Unified Command, a patrol group made up of several agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, according to a release from the unified command.

At 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, Border Patrol agents assigned to the north San Diego County coast spotted a panga-style boat—a small fishing boat with a scoop shape—traveling east toward the shoreline.

Agents responded at the area, where they observed the boat quickly returning to sea. Agents searched the area and encountered a total of 11 people hiding in the hills alongside the beach.

Agents questioned the group of eight males and three females and determined they had entered the United States illegally, the release states.

Eight were deported through an expedited removal process, meaning it would be a felony if they were to re-enter the country illegally.
