30 Firefighters Battle Blaze at San Clemente Condo

A mom, a dad and a 2-year-old child were inside when the fire started in a bedroom, but the occupants got out.

A fire cause extensive damage in a two-story, 1,500- square-foot San Clemente condominium today, an Orange County Fire Authority captain said.

The fire was reported just after 9 p.m. in the 150 block of Avenida Baja, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

"A mom, a dad and a 2-year-old child were inside when the fire started in a bedroom, but the occupants got out," Concialdi said.

No injuries were reported.

Thirty firefighters had the fire under control at 9:27 p.m., Concialdi said.

The family did not have a working smoke alarm, he said.

"If this would have happened when they were asleep it could have been potentially fatal," Concialdi said.
