Body Found in Creek Bed Identified

Body of homeless man was found under an overpass by another transient Sunday night.

There was no sign of foul play in the death of a 48-year-old homeless man found Sunday night in South San Clemente, said officials from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Department.

Daniel Brown was found dead in the San Mateo Creek bed under an overpass near the intersection of Avenida San Diego and El Camino Real. Another homeless man found him at 10:18 p.m. Sunday.

San Clemente Police Services initially responded, but San Clemente Police Chief Lt. John Coppock said the body was over the county line, so San Diego authorities took over the investigation.

SD Medical Examiner's Investigator Lenore Aldridge said the death didn't appear to be suspicious, but a cause has not yet been determined. The examiner's department has performed the autopsy, but is awaiting toxicology results, she said.

This is sad. This guy most likely died alone.

He liked to be called Shawn and he was a good man. We had the chance to have him become a part of our church family and worked hard to help him get off the streets after 39 years out there. He was loved and will be dearly missed. Rest in Peace my friend!
