Bogus Shark Warnings Posted Sunday

San Clemente State Beach from the pier to Califia was NOT closed to water recreation Sunday, the city reports.

The reports of sharks off San Clemenete State Beach have been greatly exaggerated, reports the city.

On Sunday, someone posted a fake “shark warning” notice near the San Clemente Pier. The sign indicated that water recreation was closed from Califia Beach to the pier.

“The sign appears official with the California State Parks' bear logo, but state lifeguards said they did not make the sign. The sign was promptly removed,” according to a city press release.
