Border Patrol Seizes 560 lbs. of Pot

In two incidents over the holiday weekend, border agents seized the weed and arrested one man.

U.S. Border Patrol agents working I-5 and I-8 freeways over the holiday weekend seized nearly 560 pounds of marijuana worth more than $837,000, according to a release from the patrol.

Friday at 1 p.m., San Clemente agents pulled over a 2004 Dodge Durango traveling north on I-5 near Cristianitos Road, the release states.

Agents questioned the 29-year-old male U.S. citizen driver, and a Border Patrol drug dog sniffed out 70.46 pounds of marijuana. The drugs were allegedly stuffed between the second- and third-row seats of the SUV in 27 bundles, worth $105,690 on the street, the release states.

The vehicle and drugs were seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

The next seizure happened Monday at 11:30 p.m. on the I-8.

"Border Patrol agents observed eight large trash bags on the shoulder of the highway near the Pine Valley checkpoint," the release states. "Agents discovered 134 bundles of marijuana inside the bags. The bundles weighed 487.55 pounds and had an estimated street value of $731,325."
