The city is releasing a new, award-winning Crime Alert System mid February for the community of San Clemente.

Ever want to be alerted about the crime and safety threats in your area right as they happen? Now you can, with San Clemente’s new Crime Alert System created by Nixle,LLC.

By registering a zip code and mobile number on the Nixle website (www.nixle.com), San Clemente residents will be able to receive important and time sensitive information regarding the community’s immediate safety in order to prevent potential crime and danger, city officials said.

This free service, which will be available for use beginning in mid February, will allow San Clemente Police Services to connect directly with the community via email or mobile phone (text/SMS) with pertinent information, whenever there is an urgent public-safety threat.

“Most people aren’t really listening to the information [regarding threats to public safety] that is being put out there right now—they’re not taking it seriously," said Leslie Mowers, San Clemente crime prevention specialist. "With this alert service we can communicate to residents in a direct and efficient way.”

This crime alert service also has the capability to target residents within a specific area that is being affected or in danger of crime.
