CRIME REPORTS: Train Station Beating, Tortilla Hustler

The following are selected reports from the San Clemente Police Services dispatch log over the past few days.

At 8:26 p.m. Monday, a caller reported an illegal peddler in the 100 block of Escalones. According to the report, a man was walking the streets of downtown San Clemente selling tortillas. The man was disturbing people by yelling, "Tortillas, tortillas, tortillas."

At 7:29 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a disturbance in the 100 block of Avenida Victoria. The informant reported local transient woman known for screaming at passers-by, was outside of Mr. Sushi yelling at customers. 

At 5:05 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a burglary in the first block of Via Nerisa. According to the report, a man’s ex-wife cleaned out his house and was in violation of a court order.

At 3:00 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a marijuana plant which was growing in a construction site near the East Avenida Pico and El Camino Real intersection. 

At 6:45 p.m. Sunday, police arrested a 19-year-old-man in the 1700 block of Avenida Estacion. The man had reportedly gotten into a fist fight with another man at the train station, and then took off running towards the Ole Hanson Pool.  Firefighters responded and transported the man who was beat up to the hospital. The 19-year-old-man was taken into custody and bail was set for $20,000.

At 4:03 p.m. Sunday, a caller reported a traffic hazard in the 1600 block of Via Tulipan. According to the report, three to five minors were seen throwing oranges at passing cars near Via Pimpollo and Via Peunia. 

At 10:13 a.m. Sunday, a caller reported a reckless driver in the 2700 block of Cepa Uno. According to the report, the informant reported subjects who were drag racing on Camino De Los Mares. 

At 8:52 a.m. Sunday, a caller reported vandalism in the 2300 block of Avenida Marejada. The informant stated that someone had placed fecal matter on their outdoor patio furniture. There were no witnesses or suspects. 

At 9:20 p.m. Saturday, police assisted firefighter in the 1800 block of El Camino Real. According to the report, firefighters were needed to assist with a man who lit himself on fire and appeared to be intoxicated near the train station. 

At 6:36 p.m. Saturday, a caller reported a disturbance near the South El Camino Real and Avenida Magdalena intersection. According to the report, a transient man had been sleeping in one of the bathroom stalls at the Jack in the Box and refused to leave when asked.
