Door-to-Door Salesman Suspected of Fraud Is Arrested

SHERIFF'S BLOTTER: Also, a woman allegedly damages a car and is arrested, a caller reports public abuse to a child, and an angry man smashes a vacant mailbox.

At 2:22 p.m. Thursday Dec. 19, a woman phoned deputies to complain of a suspicious man who came to her door in the 0 block of Via Cuenta Nueva. The man claimed to be from AT&T, but drove up in a personal vehicle and asked when the woman’s husband would be home. Deputies arrived and arrested a 20-year-old man who remains in custody in lieu of $40,000 bail.

At 1:57 p.m. Thursday Dec. 19, a caller reported a suspiciously damaged car in the 800 block of Avenida Pico. The caller did not witness an accident but believed one recently occurred. Deputies arrived and arrested a 44-year-old woman who works as a graphic designer.

At 2:33 p.m. Thursday Dec. 19, someone phoned deputies to report a mother slapping her child in the face in the 1300 block of Calle Valle.

At 9:39 p.m. Thursday Dec. 19, a worried caller reported a suspicious person in the 100 block of Avenida San Diego. A 20-year-old man in a dark gray hoodie was smashing a mailbox in front of an abandoned house.

These are selected reports from the San Clemente Police Dispatch Services log throughout the past few days. The calls represent what was told to a sheriff's deputy in the field by the radio dispatcher. No presumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the information provided.
