The 68-year-old victim's car is broadsided by a 17-year-old driver on El Camino Real. The victim's wife is injured.

A pickup truck pulling onto El Camino Real on Tuesday afternoon broadsided a car, killing a 68-year-old man and injuring his wife.

At 1:45 p.m., the pickup, driven by a 17-year-old, was turning left from Camino San Clemente when it struck the car heading north, said Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Shane Stewart.

The driver was given CPR at the scene and taken to the hospital by paramedics, along with his wife, who sustained minor injuries, the Orange County Register reports.

The victim was identified as Merle Moen of Rapid City, S.D., according to the Orange County coroner's office. He died at 2:17 p.m. at Mission Hospital.

According to the Register, no one was initially cited or arrested in connection with the accident.

Well Pinky, The 17 year old might have committed a traffic violation, been without a license, and its being hinted at that he hasn't been arrested or cited yet. Probably until they finish their investigation. It sounds like it was the young mans fault but its hard to tell from the article other then the hints. Its hard to picture the dead mans fault with the way the wreck is discribed thus far. A dead man being hit hard enough on a residential street looks like he will definately end up being a victim. He might have ran a red light, or cut the corner hitting the drivers side of the car and he must have going pretty fast to kill the driver of the car, on the drivers side. That would darn near taking caving it in speeding around wrecklessly on residential streets. Have to see if they give any further information. Very sad story for the elderly woman and man, she has lost her husband in a split second. All their family and friends trying to get through all this with her and my prayers are with all of you. For this young man whos life will never be the same after this. No matter how he ends up being charged, it still ends up he was involved, saw this happen, and the man dead. That is something you never forget. God bless him and his family who also must be sad and mad all at the same time.
