Man Killed by Pickup in Tuesday Crash

The 68-year-old victim's car is broadsided by a 17-year-old driver on El Camino Real. The victim's wife is injured.

A pickup truck pulling onto El Camino Real on Tuesday afternoon broadsided a car, killing a 68-year-old man and injuring his wife.

At 1:45 p.m., the pickup, driven by a 17-year-old, was turning left from Camino San Clemente when it struck the car heading north, said Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Shane Stewart.

The driver was given CPR at the scene and taken to the hospital by paramedics, along with his wife, who sustained minor injuries, the Orange County Register reports.

The victim was identified as Merle Moen of Rapid City, S.D., according to the Orange County coroner's office. He died at 2:17 p.m. at Mission Hospital.

According to the Register, no one was initially cited or arrested in connection with the accident.
