DUI Checkpoints in San Clemente this Weekend

Deputies will be out in force from Friday night to Saturday morning.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will set up DUI checkpoints in San Clemente this weekend.

Enforcement will begin at 8 p.m. Friday and continue through 4 a.m. Saturday.

“These patrols will be targeting areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests,” according to a sheriff’s department press release.

Beyond the personal and emotional pain alcohol- and drug-related accidents can cause, the economic harm can be great, according to the sheriff’s department. Conservatively, a fatality has a $1.4 million impact, an injury $70,000, and a crash that only damages property averages nearly $9,000.

“As the summer months begin, we typically see an increase in DUI collisions and arrests, so we will be out looking for impaired drivers” said Deputy Wayne Howard of the department’s Traffic Bureau.
