Firefighters doused a fire at a San Clemente duplex today, but not before flames caused "extensive damage," said a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.

The fire was first reported at 3:38 p.m. in the 100 block of Via Breve near the coast north of Camino Capistrano, said Capt. Steve Concialdi. A single story duplex was on fire.

Firefighters were on scene minutes later. It took 30 firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the flames, Concialdi said.

Loss to the structure was estimated at $50,000, but the big numbers came in for the contents with a $200,000 loss, Concialdi said.

"The firefighters did an outstanding job of confining the majority of the fire to one room of the home. Unfortunately, that room had very valuable art work in it," he said.

No injuries were reported, Concialdi said. The cause was not yet known.
