The store on Camino de los Mares is held up late Tuesday, officials say. Suspect may have fled in a Silver VW Beetle.

Sheriff's investigators were on the lookout Wednesday for a gunman who robbed a Ralphs supermarket in San Clemente.

A man in his 40s entered the supermarket in the 600 block of Camino de los Mares around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, displayed a handgun and ordered a clerk to hand over an undisclosed amount of cash, said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Steve Gill.

The gunman fled the store and may have gotten into a silver Volkswagen Beetle, he said.
