Learn to Keep Your Neighbors from Drowning

The city's Marine Safety Division is starting a Neighborhood Beach Watch to help keep swimmers and surfers safe.

San Clemente lifeguards want your help in saving lives.

The city of San Clemente's Marine Safety Division is holding a meeting to provide free training for residents who want to take an active role in the city's Neighborhood Beach Watch.

Some of the tips the pros will offer include ways to recognize rip currents, the No. 1 beach danger; 20 signs of someone in distress; how to call for help; how to safely use surfboards and body boards as rescue tools; and how to assist injured surfers and swimmers.

"Regardless of swimming or surfing ability, everyone plays a part in making our community safer," the city website says.

The meeting will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the San Clemente Community Center, 100 N. Calle Seville.
