Man Struck and Killed by Pickup in Ralphs Parking Lot ID'd

A man walking with his teenaged daughter was struck and killed by a pickup truck at a San Clemente supermarket driveway, and he was publicly identified Saturday.

Paul Michelena, 46, was struck about 4:45 p.m. Friday by a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The truck was turning into the parking lot at the Ralphs supermarket, at 903 E. El Camino Real, when it struck Michelena, said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Steve Gil.

Gil said Michelena was with his 13-year-old daughter, who was not injured.

Paramedics rushed Michelena to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where he was pronounced dead at 5:28 p.m. Friday, according to the Coroner's Office.

The pickup truck was driven by a 43-year-old man, who was not arrested or cited as the investigation was ongoing, Gil said.
