The fire broke out at 1:15 p.m.

Orange County firefighters Monday afternoon extinguished a fire in a storage lot at the city utility corporation yards off Avenida Pico.

A contractor was storing boxes containing LED traffic lights. It was the boxes that somehow caught fire, said Jonathan Ranson with the city of San Clemente.

The lot is fenced off and sits above the rear sides of the buildings that face Los Molinos. An opague column of black smoke was visible throughout the North Beach area.
