Two men robbed a San Clemente gas station at gunpoint early Monday morning, escaping to the freeway with an undisclosed sum of cash, according to police reports.
Shortly before 2 a.m., two men approached the station at the 2300 block of El Camino Real, said Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Roland Chacon.
One, wearing a dark hoodie, stayed outside as the other, wearing a mask, entered and brandished a black handgun, demaning money from the clerk.
The clerk handed over the cash, but activated the silent robbery alarm as he did, according to police incident logs.
The men left in a dark vehicle, headed toward the I-5 north, and were still at large as of 11 a.m.
Chacon said he couldn't release any more suspect information for fear of compromising the investigation. He encouraged anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
