San Clemente High Hosts Actual DUI Sentencing

School and Superior Court officials hope to keep students from driving drunk by showing them the consequences.

Some parents in the San Clemente High School PTA got a little worried when they saw the flip t-shirt slogan "San Clemente is a Drinking Town with a Surfing Problem."

So, they joined with the Associated Student Body to get an education effort underway.

Wednesday morning, two DUI defendants pleaded guilty and were sentenced--not at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, but in a courtroom set up in San Clemente High School Gymnasium--as students observed.

Judge Kimberly Menninger called court into session after some films and speakers who explained the dangers of drunk and distracted driving. They focused on texting.
