A San Clemente man died Sunday night after his motorcycle hit a big-rig truck headed south on the I-5 in north San Diego County.

Kyle Joseph Mason, 23, an active-duty Marine, sustained major injuries in the early-evening crash, injuries to which he later succumbed.

Mason was driving his 2007 Yamaha motorcycle north of Lomas Santa Fe at about 7:55 p.m. Friday, according to CHP Officer Chris Parent. He was traveling about 70 to 75 miles per hour in the fast lane when the motorcycle crossed three lanes and struck the back of a 1995 Kenworth tractor-trailer carrying a load of wood, which was driven by Gonzalo Villasenor, 46, of Tijuana.
